This blog only consider those aircrafts which are developed within past
twenty-twenty five years and above 4++ generation and also has a physical prototype that is tested once i. e, not in design or concept phase.
The index numbering used here does not reflect any superiority over other. Remember that taking down another aircraft most of
the times depends on the pilot's ability to fly and take risk, on board avionics and weapon systems and sometimes luck. So Let's begin...
10. JF-17 THUNDER
PA JF-17 Thunder or CAC FC-1 Xiaolong is single-engine multirole fighter
aircraft developed by Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) and Chengdu Aircraft Corporation (CAC). Its a 4++ generation fighter aircraft
with diverse air-to-air and air-to-surface missile. But some critics suggests that its design is copied from Russian Mig-33. Anyways, it is
here in this list only because it took its first flight on 25 August 2003 and inducted into service on 12 March 2007.
9. MIKOYAN MIG-35
Mikoyan Mig-35 is a Russian multirole fighter designed and developed by Mikoyan. Its NATO
reporting name is Fulcrum-F. It is an 4.5+ generation aircraft with latest vastly improved avionics, weapon system. The single-seat version is
designated MiG-35 and the two-seat version MiG-35D. One of the most interesting fact about this aircraft is it uses optical locator infrared
search and track (IRST) system (sometimes known as infrared sighting and tracking). It is used to detect and track
objects which give off infrared radiation such as Helicopters, Jet Aircraft. Thus it can intercept any target without depending on
ground radar making it a good intercepter. It took its first flight on 7 February 2007 and expected to be inducted
into service in 2019 or 2020.
8. HAL TEJAS
The HAL Tejas MK-I is an Indian single-engine, delta wing, multirole light
fighter designed by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the Indian Air Force and Indian
Navy. It is Light combat aircraft with Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) Radar and latest avionics helmet mounted sight system.
It took its fight on 4 January 2001 and inducted into service into IAF on 17 January 2015. Its Naval variant is still under development.
HAL is also working on Tejas MK-II reported to be Medium weight dual seater twin engine aircraft. However Tejas is praised for high
maneuverability and ease of flying by pilots.
7. SHENYANG FC-31
The Shenyang FC-31 also known as FC-31 is a twin-engine 5th generation stealth
jet fighter currently under development by Shenyang Aircraft Corporation. First flight on 31 October 2012 expected to be inducted in 2019-2020.
Chinese government did not released much information about it. Its capabilities is still not known properly but expected to be equipped with latest
avionics and weapon system
6. DASSAULT RAFALE
The Dassault Rafale literally meaning "gust of wind" or "burst of fire" is a
French twin-engine, canard delta wing, multirole fighter aircraft designed and built by Dassault Aviation. It is oldest aircraft in this list.
It is a 5th generation aircraft with latest avionics and stealth capabilities. Equipped with upgraded air-to-air and air-to-surface weapon
system it is an formidable opponent against any aircraft. It is also used as a bomber .
5. CHENGDU J-20
The Chengdu J-20 is a single-seat, twinjet, all-weather, stealth
fifth-generation fighter aircraft developed by China's Chengdu Aerospace Corporation for the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF).
It was first tested on 7 February 2007 and first formally introduced in 2016 and from 2017 it is in service.
4. MITSUBISHI X-2 SHINSHIN
The Mitsubishi X-2 Shinshin is a Japanese experimental aircraft for testing
advanced stealth fighter aircraft technologies. It is being developed by the Japanese Ministry of Defense Technical Research and Development
Institute (TRDI) for research purposes. Japan wanted to have F-22 Raptor, but US congress banned exporting of F-22 to safeguard its sensitive
aircraft technology from being copied by the others like China. It is in development phase and expected to be a 5.5+ gen aircraft with latest
3. F35 LIGHTNING II
The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II is a family of single-seat,
single-engine, all-weather stealth multirole fighter. It is one of the most advanced aircraft in this list. The F-35A is armed with a
GAU-22/A, a four-barrel version of the 25 mm GAU-12 Equalizer cannon. It can carry air-to-surface missile and bombs upto 2000 lb (910 kg).
The weapon bays can carry AIM-120 AMRAAM, AIM-132 ASRAAM, the Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM), Paveway series of bombs, the Joint
Standoff Weapon (JSOW), Brimstone anti-tank missiles, and cluster munitions. But the most important fact about it that its variant has
vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) capability making it capable to operate from aircraft carrier easily.
2. F22 RAPTOR
The Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor is a fifth-generation, single-seat,
twin-engine, all-weather stealth tactical fighter aircraft developed for the United States Air Force (USAF). It is probably the most
advanced aircraft in terms of stealth technology in world. It has Radar cross section(RCS) of just 0.0001 sq.m. Having low heat signature
engines it is very hard to detect and track an F-22. Its weapon systems are similar to F-35 system combining both air-to-air and
air-to-surface weapon system, internal canons(Don't know what is the use of cannon in such an advance aircraft).
1. PAK-FA SUKHOI SU-57
The PAK-FA SUKHOI Su-57 is the most advanced 5th gen all weather
multirole air-superiority fighter aircraft made by Russia. It is still in development phase. Russians wanted an aircraft to tackle USA
made F-22 and F-35. However, it is still in development phase as its engines will be changed which will generate less heat signature
making it more difficult to be detected by Radar and IR seekers.
